Why Should I Have an MRI?

A MRI is extremely helpful at diagnosing many common orthopedic injuries. Whereas an X-ray can give us a clear view of a patient's bone, a MRI shows tendons, muscles and ligaments. It is helpful in diagnosing injuries such as ACL or MCL tears, Rotator Cuff tears, and spinal treatment such as decompression or a lumbar spinal fusion. MRI machines can also be used for brain scans and to help rule out infection or tumor. MRI, which was developed in the 1980ss, is now considered a vital part of the diagnosis of orthopedic injuries and is extremely accurate.
